My interest in postcards is in the fact that they are material objects that carry meaning in a particular way. Their meaning is located in the imagery that the front carries as well as the meaning carried by the individual messages that are inscribed on the reverse side. My focus is on the image itself; usually a ubiquitous image of main sites of a particular place. They originate out of the culture of tourism and therefore necessarily carry the iconography of landscape as idealised in terms of viewpoint and lighting.
